Meet your representatives

Reena Brinner
Elected

My name is Reena Brinner, and I am running for a return seat on the school board because I believe that our children deserve the best possible education. I was appointed to the Board as a Parent Representative last year and as a parent of two children, I understand the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment where every student can thrive. If elected, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our schools have the resources they need to provide a world-class education to our students. This includes improving teacher training and retention, and promoting policies that support student achievement. I am passionate about providing every child with an exceptional education and believe that we must work together to create the best possible future for our children. I thank you for considering me as a candidate for the school board and look forward to earning your vote.

Craig Hurford
Elected

Hi, my name is Craig Hurford. My wife Jo and I have three children that attend Beckenham Te Kura o Pūroto; Liv, Tom and Maeve. Over the last 4 years I have developed a strong connection to the local community and school and have enjoyed helping out with activities where possible.

I am a director of a local engineering and surveying consultancy business and as such I am familiar with setting and implementing strategic goals, setting and overseeing budgets and leading and managing staff. I have also been Chairperson for the Canterbury Branch of Survey and Spatial New Zealand, and am currently the treasurer for this organisation.

I would love to be involved on the board as I believe I have the skills, knowledge and experience to make a valuable contribution to the governance of Beckenham Te Kura o Pūroto.

Being a board member will give me an opportunity to help Beckenham Te Kura o Pūroto be the best learning Environment possible. I am committed to working alongside the current board members and the principal to ensure the best possible outcomes for our Tamariki.

It is my goal to ensure Beckenham Te Kura o Pūroto continues to be a fun, safe and positive environment for all of our Tamariki as they continue on their journey to become leaders. I would love the opportunity represent the Children, Parents/Caregivers and the wider community as a Trustee.

John Ussher
Elected

Kia ora,

I am excited to announce my candidacy for a position on the Board of Trustees at Beckenham Te Kura O Pūroto. My commitment to our school community, coupled with my unique perspective as a parent and a Drama teacher at Cashmere High School, makes me a strong candidate for this role.

My two sons, Robbie and Jake, are students at Beckenham Te Kura O Pūroto, and as a parent, I have a personal stake in the success of our school. Witnessing the positive impact it has on my own children's lives has motivated me to actively engage in its development.

Professionally, as a drama teacher at Cashmere High School, I understand the importance of a well-rounded education. I believe that the arts and cultural programs are instrumental in fostering creativity and critical thinking. If elected, I will advocate for the expansion and improvement of our arts programs, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to explore their creative potential.

Community involvement is a cornerstone of my values. I have been an active participant in various local initiatives and events, including the direction of various dramatic productions at Cashmere High School over the last 12 years, and I have been a coach for my son Robbie’s Sydenham cricket team for the last four years. I have also been a volunteer host on the RDU 98.5fm radio show, Hauswerk, for the last 15 years. My commitment to open communication and collaboration will be a driving force on the Board. I aim to bridge the gap between parents, teachers, and administrators, creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every student can flourish.

Safety and well-being are paramount in any educational setting. As a trustee, I will prioritise the physical and emotional safety of our students, working diligently to maintain a secure learning environment.

In summary, I offer dedication, transparency, and a strong sense of community in my candidacy for the Board of Trustees at Beckenham Te Kura O Pūroto. My goal is to represent your interests, address your concerns, and collaborate with all stakeholders to further enhance our school.

I kindly ask for your support in this endeavour. Together, we can continue building a school that prepares our children for a promising future.

Nga mihi nui,

John Ussher
